Seth Godin… Transforms!!

Seth Godin did a lot more than just contribute to fear.less. The whole project materialized in the first place as a result of his Alternative MBA program, which brought together a tight platoon of amazing, innovative people, two of whom are the creators of fear.less. Since the fear.less team is working under Seth, and I am working under them as editor, Seth Godin is basically my grand-boss.

Seth is a marketing master, brimming with business know-how, which he uses to fill many best-selling books. I read one. It was called Tribes, and it was delightful. His blog is read by more people than you will probably ever meet in your entire life. The man is certainly on top of things.

What sort of words pop into your head when you think of salesmen and entrepreneurs like Seth? “Shrewd”? Perhaps “calculating”? If Seth is the Optimus Prime of marketing, he must be a robot in disguise, yes? With his bald head and knowing smile, he is the poster boy for icy composure. He is like Agent 47 from Hitman, except for marketing. There’s no way this ultra-calm and collected man feels fear, right?

Wrong!

It turns out Seth is cool exactly because he isn’t cold. Seth may be the most panicked entrepreneur in fear.less, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Soon, you will get to read how Seth transforms from a guy armed with only a newsletter, an idea about lavender livestock and a severe case of failurephobia, into the radiant paragon of marketing wisdom leering at you above.

I think that’s pretty inspiring, Mr. Godin, even if you can’t morph into a truck.

How do you know I can’t transform into a truck?

As long as it isn’t that obnoxious ice cream truck one…

Seth Godin has transformed my way of thinking since reading his books “Tribes” & “Linchpin”. Fear or resistance as Steven Pressfield labels it holds us back from truly experiencing the wonders this life has to offer.

It’s a daily struggle to overcome our fears – failure, rejection, I’m not good enough, I don’t know what I’m doing and so many more tug at us to not take that step out of our comfort zone.

It’s publications like your fear.less and books from forward thinkers like Seth Godin and Steven Pressfield that help lift up and encourage others to keep on leaning forward and put into action their ideas not matter what. I’m doing it with a mini-tribe (that’s growing in numbers every week) of like minded people in my area and we’re having a great time sharing and learning from each others experiences. I would not have started this tribe if it wasn’t for Seth’s blog, eBooks and print books. They didn’t give me a how-to map – that’s not Seth’s way – they gave me the strength to look within myself and release the art that has been hidden by fear.

Congratulations on the launch of fear.less – I look forward to reading your 1st issue and am encouraged once again by knowing someone else has moved past their fear to try something new.

Seth is the wisest of the wise. I’ve been a fan and daily blog reader of this REMARKABLE man for years – ever since I read his “Purple Cow.” I’ve read all of his books, and his latest, “Linchpin” is pretty cool.

If anyone is interested in interacting with a Seth Godin fan who’s heavy into enterpreneurship and reinventing education, I’m in Columubus, Ohio. You can check out my detailed LinkedIn profile. My email address is: chinaredgiraffe@yahoo.com

(I lived 2 years in Beijing, and a Red Giraffe (like a Purple Cow) is remarkable. Hence the email address. I occasionally do some business consulting under the company name “Red Giraffe Innovation.” With this company name, I get to say, “I stick out my neck for my employees and customers” and “I’m head and shoulders above the competition.” Also, people tend to remember the name Red Giraffe – though spelling is difficult for some).

(I’m a linchpin, by the way.) I look forward to adding fear.less to my radar screen.

Is it okay if I’m a little envious of you taking the mini-MBA? Because I totally am, but not in any bad kind of way. I read Seth’s blog religiously and I love his insights – short, but deep. Very skillfully crafted and ever so generous.

To know that he is masterminding fear.less is a very pleasant surprise indeed, and I’d love to hear some personal stories concerning his fears – he *has* written a lot about the lizard brain in the past…
